Gai-Luron is a French comic book character created by Marcel Gotlib in 1964. Initially a secondary character in a comic strip published in Vaillant, this dog quickly became the main character, although the first album releases only date from 1975. An assumed reference to Tex Avery's Droopy with a good Gotlibian touch in addition to the absurd, irreverence, delirious dialogues and gags stunning visuals, Gai-Luron is aimed at children without taking them for kids.
Heavy eyelids, drooping ears and flaccid jowls, Gai-Luron is a dog indifferent to everything except naps. And when he sleeps, dreams where he sleeps. If he speaks little, it's because he doesn't think about it any more and if “it's a great calm in appearance, it's because – and that's where he deceives the enemy – it's really great calm”.
