Attakus once again highlights the female characters of its favorite authors with this statuette inspired by an illustration by Juanjo Guarnido.
This resin figurine is taken from an original illustration by Juanjo Guarnido for the city of Amiens, with the theme: “The Cathedral of Amiens in the colors of the world seen by comic strip authors”.
In 2004, Amiens Métropole asked various designers to produce a series of illustrations. It was during a visit to the cathedral of Amiens that Juanjo Guarnido, while scouting, had the idea for this drawing. He is attracted by a 19th century canvas which is “in a small side chapel”.
His guide then explains to him the legend of Saint Ulphe, a young hermit who demanded silence from the frogs. Indeed, the latter, by preventing her from sleeping because of their croaking, had made her miss the mornings, because it was only in the early morning that she had finally dozed off. This legend is known as “The Miracle of the Raines”. The canvas, a real favourite, then inspired Guarnido to draw the drawing that inspired this figurine. The designer may not have finished with this character: “Ulphe continues to talk to me and inspire me. A comic strip on Sainte Ulphe? Maybe someday…"
Before that of Amiens, Juanjo Guarnido was able to admire another cathedral at leisure: that of Granada, his hometown where he also studied. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of the city. Without forgetting the Almudena Cathedral, in Madrid, where he settled when he worked at the Lápiz Azul animation studios.
