Blacksad -
Welcome to the film-noir-like comic world of Blacksad, created by Juanjo Guarnido and Juan Díaz Canalès.
Guarnido's detailed linework brings the 1950s America setting to realistic life, and his color brings to life the film-noir homage.
Blacksad has managed to establish itself as a reference of contemporary comics by exciting both the public and the critics.
Translated into many languages and many countries and released in the United States by Dark Horse Comics, Blacksad is one of the biggest Euro-comics to hit the world these last years and Guarnido and Diaz Canales have received several prizes for this series (6 albums), including three Eisner Award nominations (Best U.S. Edition of International Material for Blacksad: A Silent Helll /Best Painter/Multimedia Artist) and an Angoulême Prize for artwork.
For those who do not know him yet, John Blacksad is a detective, a black cat with a white truffle, who likes pretty faces and who hangs his legs in the America of the 50s. Devastating charm, romantic virility, mysterious look and feline, the hero evolves in a dark atmosphere of polar surrounded by a gallery of anthropomorphic characters all more charismatic than each other.
Already 6 volumes!
On each cover of the Blacksad albums a particular colour predominates:
black for volume 1 "Somewhere between the shadows". White and grey for volume 2, "Arctic-Nation". Red-orange for volume 3, "Red Soul". Blue for volume 4, "A Silent Hell". Yellow for volume 5, "Amarillo". Amarillo means "yellow" in Spanish. Volume 6, "They all fall down", is night blue (surely a reference to nightfall!).
